Eat, Sleep, Draw

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS WEBSITE. (Yes. The capslock was necessary.) Here's why I love eatsleepdraw.com.

one. It's the perfect place to show your talent in drawing, paiting, sculpting, or what have you.

two. They do not judge your creations. At all. Everything that's submitted is guaranteed to be approved. (As long as it's your OWN work.)

three. With the way tumblr works, if that submitted art is posted on the site, and gets reblogged, then others will also get to see it as well. It spreads all over the community which gets your name out there.

It is seriously a feast in the eyes, in my opinion. I recommend this site to anyone who loves checking out different kinds of art.

"Hip" personal cards?

This was the first personal card I made for myself and for my sister.

I was really into the black or white background mixed with the vibrant colors (pink, green, blue, etc.). The style of the card with the boombox creates that urban hip-hop vibe to it, which I really enjoyed making. I also had fun making my own personal card. I coordinated the black silhouette look of the birds on the branches with these bright colored rectangles and made them look like planks.

More dot-eyed cubes!

These cubes just started off as sketches and doodles, and now, after scanning them, and outlining them on Photoshop, here's the result.
These are going to be part of my personal website. Now, to animate all of them....
Please anticipate. :D

My attempt of making a chibi...

As simple as chibi looks, it seems hard making one. You have to have the perfect face shape, features, colors or shades, expressions, etc.
I remember looking through photoshoots of one of my favorite boy group member,

and suddenly having this urge to make a chibi out of it. I only wanted one so I can have a default picture for twitter. So I decided to make one.

It took me a few hours, 5 sketches, and a few annoyed grunts here and there, to get the chibi that I want.

Then the fun and frustrating part was applying the design through illustrator. I'm not really an avid user of the program, but I thought it was a good program to use since I would rather have the image as a vector. I remember staying up until 3 in the morning getting that done.

After all that hard work, here's the result.

I gotta say, I was, and still am, pretty satisfied with my first illustrator-based chibi. ^__^

Making gifs online.

Whenever I see an animated gif in an online community post, I always wondered how they were able to make one of those. Did they need to use a certain software to get that to work?
Well, the word out there said that there's a website that would let you make a gif straight from a youtube video.
The website is gifsoup.com.

To get started, you have to sign up for an account. All of your youtube gifs will be saved in that account. After you're fully registered, you can now start making gifs!

So, first you copy the link of the video you want to make your gif from.
I chose this video for my gif.

On the gifsoup page, paste the link on the link bar, and click on Create Gif. It'll take a few seconds for the site to load the video, for it to be ready for gif making.

After it's fully loaded, it'll take you to this next page.

What I do is I play the video, then pinpoint where I want the gif to start and to end with the Start Time and End Time button. With those options, it'll save the time on each end. Afterward, you press the preview button to see if that's the right cut you wanted. Don't forget to select a category and a title for that gif. Also, take note that you can only have a 15-second gif, which I think is long enough for one.

When you're satisfied with the cut, you press finish.

Here's the result!

I did an edit on this gif by cropping off the label and cutting off some of the frames through Fireworks.

I kinda think this one is funnier. XD

Going beyond the typical :)

We all use it. In texts, emails, instant messaging, facebook status; the infamous smiley icon :) that lets our fellow social network friends know if we are happy, satisfied, or okay with whatever it is we are indicating that icon to.

Of course, we also have these:

:( - if we're sad,
>:( - if we're angry, or upset,
:\ - if we're annoyed,
<3 - to show love,
and so on.

But what if you wanna express what you really feel, but don't really know how to show it in an emoticon?

Well here's a few that I often use when it's really necessary.
A little info about these emoticons: these are usually used by the Asian or Asian-cultured social network population.

Here's the simple ones.

(^_^)
smiley

(>_<)
angry

(¬_¬)
annoyed

d(>w<)b
double thumbs up

ಠ_ಠ
look of disapproval (one of my favorites)

ʘ‿ʘ
innocent smile

^///^
blushing

And here's when they go beyond just slashes and underscores. The most fun to use, in my opinion.

(´;ω;`)
when you're terribly sad

ヽ(`Д´)ノ
irritable

(#゚Д゚)
angry

┐('~`;)┌
"I don't know"

( ´Д`)ノ(´・ω・`)
patting someone, "there there"

( ^_^)o自自o(^_^ )
making a toast, cheers

(゚Д゚;≡;゚Д゚)
impatient

щ(゚Д゚щ)(屮゚Д゚)屮
"Come on!" (I use this one more often)

( つ Д `)
sad

♪┏(・o・)┛♪┗ ( ・o・) ┓♪
happy, dancing to music

(╬ ಠ益ಠ)
extreme distaste (I get a crack out of this one everytime)

Strawberry. It's not a berry?

So, here I was. Looking through my twitter, checking my updates to see if there's any interesting things my t-list tweeted that hour. I looked some, and happened to see one that pretty much blew my mind and my perspective of these two fruits.

The tweet said, "Did you know that strawberries are not considered a berry? And that a banana is considered a berry?"

I remember reading that and reacted out loud with a "WHAT THE F@#!#$?". As I saw that, I needed to research that specific information a little bit.

So I googled both strawberry and banana, which enlightened me as to why that fruit is considered what it is.

Apparently, strawberry is not considered a berry since its seeds are seen on the outside, whereas fruits that are berries, like blueberries and blackberries, have them inside.
"So why did they even call it a berry?" Some say that "English children who picked the fruit, strung them on grass straws and sold them as 'Straws of berries'".

Bananas are, in fact, berries, since the seeds can be found in the fleshy inner layer.

If you knew these facts already, then GOOD FOR YOU. 21 years of thinking strawberry was berry was all... A LIE. This is news to me, as you can see. I remember telling this to a good friend of mine and she was flabbergasted by it. She was in denial knowing that what she believed from the beginning was all a misunderstanding. Nowadays, she jokingly calls strawberry, "straw". And banana? "Bananaberry".

Tofu buttons!

Here's a little something I'm working on for the website project in web design class.

First, it starts off as a little cube with 2 dot eyes.

Then, when you hover the mouse to it, it then looks like a constipated tofu.

First, I had to sketch the dot-eyed cube by hand, then scanned it. Then, I went to photoshop to make a more bold outline of the figure. I still kept that sketchy feel of the cube since that was the look I was aiming for. Afterward, I duplicated it and colored them in which resulted to what you see above.

I'm making a total of 5 tofu buttons, and this was one of them. The other 4 is still in progress. I hope they all turn out really well. Well, in your eyes, hopefully it is. :)

Dude. Child can DANCE DANCE.

I've been a fan of DDR, or Dance Dance Revolution, ever since I stepped foot into one of those that you see in the arcades back in the homeland. I remember it took me awhile for me to get used to the step patterns and getting caught up with the speed of the songs. But watching this kid... made me look like I'm CRAP.

This toddler is pretty much perfection with this game. I am uberly green in envy. I never, NEVER, get an A in a song like that, let alone, AA.

I give him a two-thumbs up with his super amazing skills of the DDR pad. Bravo to you, kid.

What is a "Janine"?

Friday early morning. Still struggling to fully wake up since i only had about 3 or 4 hours of sleep. Entering the cold classroom wishing I had a donut of caffeine so it would at least get me through 4 hours of class time without the embarassment of sleeping and drooling in class. Turns on the computer to finalize whatever project we had due on that day. Puts on earbuds in my ears like i'm in my own world.

This is what I usually show to everyone when i'm in the class. Quiet. Silent worker. Casually dressed down. Bops my head to my own music.

I seem really quiet in class, but that's because I lack sleep and it's hard to for me to be my loud, chatty self if i didn't intake any soda or coffee.
When I'm really into my work or project, I usually work without making a peep.
I could care less what I wear, so I just grab whatever clothing I see in the closet for school. But when I'm with my friends, I usually dress myself up much nicer.
I've been an avid listener of Asian pop for almost a year now. I listen to mostly Korean pop and some Japanese pop / ballad. I do, however, have a strong love for some good ol' classic rock. Van Halen, Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, Queen to name a few that I love and cherish.

And I end this post with this cute furry creature. :3
